Have you ever wondered what it looks like to pack for two months on the road? So many people are curious about how we manage to pack enough clothing and things for such long trips. But surprisingly it's not that hard once you just start! You have to think practically and prepare for every viable situation.
Today I'm going to give you a picture tour of what my packing situation looks like on the road! Hopefully you'll see that it's not as hard or crazy as many people think! I'm leaving home for the next two months to explore the East Coast. The weather will range from 40s to 80s, and I have to pack for prom in May! This makes packing much harder as I'll need to pack both warm-weather and cold-weather clothes, as well as a dress, shoes, and jewelry that I'll only wear for ONE night!
Our family members each get one travel bag and one backpack to fit all of our things for two months in! Other than that, we have a separate bag that holds all of our hiking shoes, and I can bring my ukulele as long as it sits next to me in the car! It might seem like that's a super small amount of space to fit all of our clothes in, but it feels like a ton! You'd be shocked at how easy it is to survive off of minimal things for extended time!

Above is my bag and backpack. My bag has the bandana to distinguish it from Lucy's. I'll start with my backpack first! When I pack the backpack, I put in all of my school stuff, my journals and pens, my little fanny-pack bag, and all of the other random things that don't really have a good spot! I also keep my water bottle, snacks, and phone chargers in there! It's a great set-up with my backpack, and I usually try to keep it close at hand so that I can pull out my work and get some done at any given moment!

But what about clothes? How do you pick what to bring or leave for so long? Basically I just think through every place that we'll be going and consider what I'll need. I usually choose to bring more than I need and have to make cuts before we leave. I fold it all down as compactly as possible and fit it in my red travel bag. This time I had even less space than usual because I had to fold my prom dress and lay it down at the bottom! Prom takes place in the hot humid air of Georgia which has its cons, but a major pro is that it steams the wrinkles out of my dress for me! Just remember, when packing, that the physical space to fit things is only one factor and the cumulative weight is another. Often I have extra space in my bag, but I don't add more things because it gets too heavy to lift up stairs without extreme effort!

Then I have my hair stuff, make-up, jewelry, and everything else that fits in to that category. I fit these all into a convenient little bag that I stick in my red travel bag. In my little bag I get resourceful to keep everything neat! I store my necklaces in straws so that they don't get tangled, my bobby pins in mini M&M containers, my hair-ties on a carabiner, my mini hair-ties in an old sample lotion canister, my earrings in a decorated Altoid holder, and more! I also use small sample size perfumes and lotions because they take up less space! I've learned that tiny containers, such as the ones that hold spices, are like gold when you travel! They are so so convenient for storing little things!

I separate all of these different items into Ziploc bags for their purpose. Such as my "hair" Ziploc bag or the "make-up" Ziploc bag. This makes everything super easy to find and access! And that's pretty much all that I need for two months on the road!
Now you've learned the answer to the mystery of how I pack for two months in tiny spaces! There really isn't much to it! You have to be practical, resourceful, and most of all creative! We lead an unconventional lifestyle that we approach in unconventional ways. There are both pros and cons to our packing situation, but believe me, people have lived on much less for much longer amounts of time!
